🚐 1984 VW T25 Genuine Westfalia High Roof with the VW 1.9 TD AAZ diesel engine fitted.
This is a genuine VW T25 LHD Westfalia Camper.
Full V5 in My Name
2 Sets of Keys
Owned for around 2 years
Summer project if not sold
Live-in ready
No tax
No MOT
Fits a car space
Low running costs
If you’re looking for a camper — possibly one you could live in — and you want to step away from rising rent and modern vehicle costs, this genuine Westfalia high-roof VW T25 is a very sensible option.
It requires no road tax, no MOT, runs on classic camper insurance, and still fits in a normal car parking space. It also comes with well over £1,000 worth of spare parts already bought and has had a new cambelt and water pump fitted last year at a cost of £400.
💡 Why this makes sense financially in 2026
Instead of paying rent, car tax, and MOT you can put the money into looking after your home on wheels without any worries with those things.
That could be savings of over £1000 a year easily which you can put into keeping this up to date and a reliable form of a home and transport.
If this does not sell it will go to Europe in April or May when the weather warms up where it will be resored over time (when not in use).
Classic campers like this are increasingly sought after, and in the UK in 2026 they are one of the few vehicles that can realistically be used, enjoyed, and still hold or increase their value.
🏕️ Genuine Westfalia High Roof – a major advantage
This is a factory Westfalia high roof, not a pop-top or aftermarket conversion. That means:
Proper standing height throughout
No lifting roofs, no canvas, no bad-weather hassle
Plenty of space to cook, make a coffee, sort the bed, or move around comfortably
Far more practical for daily or full-time living
Quieter and better insulated than a pop-top
🔧 Engine & mechanical simplicity
Fitted with the 1.9 TD AAZ diesel, a fully mechanical engine that is far simpler than anything built after the early 2000s.
Parts are easy to find as is sorting out any issues. There is so much information availabel and a quick search using chat gpt will find anything you want to know about the engine.
There is NO
No DPF
No ECU
No common-rail injection
No injector coding
No software dependency. This makes these vehicles harder to track in the future.
Fuel delivery is handled by a mechanical pump, and the injectors are conventional and easy to remove and replace, rather than seizing into the head as on many modern diesels. Parts are widely available and affordable.
With the exception of serious structural welding, most servicing and mechanical work can be carried out by a novice home mechanic with basic tools. This is exactly why these engines are still trusted worldwide and why ownership costs remain low.
🛠️ Recent work
Cambelt and water pump replaced last year. Work carried out at a cost of £400
💷 Running costs
No road tax, No MOT and Classic camper insurance
The Westfalia interior alone is worth well over £1,000 and is in good, usable condition, which already represents a significant part of the van’s value.
🏠 Interior & equipment
Genuine Westfalia interior
Genuine Westfalia awning fitted to the van. These are a rare item to find these days.
Curtains all round
Swivel front seats
Cooker, fridge, and spare leisure battery fitted
Fitted Towbar
Plus a Bike rack for the rear
I have not personally used the cooker or fridge during my ownership, so functionality cannot be guaranteed. The price reflects this and allows room for personal updating if desired.
The camper has done less than 500 miles in the last 18 months as it was bought for a project in the summer of 2026, hence all the parts that come with it.
🧰 Spares, parts & documentation included (well over £1,000 value)
Included with the van is a large collection of pre-purchased parts, all of which go with it:
Genuine VW Bentley T25 workshop manual (rare and typically ~£100 on its own)
New fuel tank
Body panels
Spare headlights
Second-hand exhaust
Brake components
Discs
Bearings
Various servicing and maintenance parts
⚠️ Important – honest condition description
This van does need work. They always do. It is on the road and drives, but it is well over 40 years old and needs someone who is practical and good at DIY to look after her. With any old VW you will always have something to sort out.
There are marks on almost every panel
Rust in most places you would expect on a T25, but the underside is pretty solid and shows signs of being looked after in the past
The engine is strong and extremely reliable, and with regular oil and filter changes should realistically last the life of the van. Fuel economy is very good, noticeably better than the petrol versions.
Known points:
One headlight needs replacing (two replacements included)
Fuel gauge does not work
Heater box is present, but no heater fitted. A Chinese diesel heater would do the job perfectly well, without the cost of a German unit
This is not a showroom camper. It is an honest, usable classic that can be used on a daily basis but will need DIY maintenance to keep it running.
🔒 Final notes – please read
If you come to view and decide to buy, the van is entirely your responsibility once paid for. This is a private sale. I am not a dealer. No tyre kickers. I am open to offers close to the asking price. Anything stupid will be ignored.
Based in Alloa, Scotland.
Price: £3,995 ONO
No swaps
No part exchange
If it hasn’t sold by April, it will be heading off on a long European trip as my next rolling project.
There is a huge following for these campers, and YouTube has excellent step-by-step videos covering almost every job you’d ever need to do on a T25 — another reason they’re so popular with DIY-minded owners.
