The 2018 McLaren 600 LT
The McLaren 600LT is a high-performance sports car produced by McLaren Automotive, a British automaker known for building high-performance and limited-edition vehicles. It is a track-focused version of the McLaren 570S and is part of the company's “Longtail” (LT) lineup.
The 600LT features a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 592 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 204 mph.
The car is built on a lightweight carbon fiber chassis, which provides a strong and light foundation. The 600LT also features enhanced aerodynamics, suspension, and braking systems to provide an exceptional driving experience. The sports car has a distinct and aggressive design, with a longtail rear that gives it its name.
The 600LT is a limited-edition model, with production lasting from 2018 to 2020, which makes it one of the rarest and most exclusive cars among the high-performance vehicle. Because of the limited production numbers and the car's high-performance capabilities, owning a McLaren 600LT is considered a status symbol and a mark of automotive excellence.
The “Longtail”

In McLaren cars, “LT” stands for “Longtail.” This name is derived from the McLaren F1 GTR “Longtail” race car, built for the 1997 season of the FIA GT Championship. The original Longtail was a development of the F1 GTR, with a lengthened tail section that improved aerodynamics, balance, and downforce.
In modern McLaren cars, the “Longtail” name is used on track-focused versions of existing models, like the 600LT. These models feature enhanced aerodynamics, suspension, and braking systems and are designed to provide an even more engaging and high-performance driving experience.
The Longtail models are typically produced in limited numbers and considered more exclusive than the regular models.
It's worth noting that McLaren has been using LT nameplates as special editions/versions of their cars to denote the focus on performance, aerodynamics, and handling. To own an LT McLaren signifies exclusivity and privilege as these models are limited production and a step above the standard models in terms of performance and specs.
Now we have the McLaren 600LT, which expands McLarens very special “Longtail family into the sports series. Stripping away every obstacle to performance and delivering raw thrills, it marks the beginning of a new chapter in our LT story.
The McLaren 600 LT is the next chapter of the “longtail”. This is only the fourth McLaren in two decades to receive the “Longtail” or LT name. It lives and breathes the relentless spirit of its predecessors.
They are designed to push driving and performance to the edge—a track car intended for the road. An animal let loose. The latest benchmark from McLaren. The most extreme, most powerful, and fastest road-legal sports series. Ever.
Substantially increased downforce through a fixed rear wing, large rear diffuser, and all-new carbon fiber bodywork designed to inspire. The result is the most incredible driving experience and confidence-inspiring McLaren ever made.
Weight Obsessed
A reduction of 96kg in the DIN weight of the McLaren 570S Coupe was the target – and achieved. There is a unique in-class carbon fiber chassis, plus the lightweight braking system and suspension are taken from the McLaren 720S.
The 600LT comes with the McLaren carbon fiber racing seats first seen in the McLaren P1. These can be made lighter still by using the super lightweight carbon fiber racing seats of the McLaren Senna. You have a further option of a carbon fiber roof and front fender louvers.
Carbon Fiber Framework
The McLaren 600LT features several carbon fiber components that help to reduce weight and increase rigidity.
The Chassis of the 600LT is made entirely of carbon fiber, which includes the MonoCell II structure. This car's main structure forms the cockpit, and it is powerful and lightweight. The chassis also features an integrated fuel tank and energy-absorbing crumple zones, which help to protect the driver in the event of a collision.
The bodywork of the 600LT is also made of carbon fiber, which includes the front and rear bumpers, side sills, and door sills. These components not only reduce weight but also help to improve aerodynamics, which contributes to the car's high-performance capabilities.
The car interior also features carbon fiber seats, door sills, and a steering wheel. This helps to reduce weight while also providing a sporty and high-quality look.
In summary, the McLaren 600LT extensively uses carbon fiber to reduce weight and increase rigidity and performance in the car's construction. This material is not just used on the exterior but also on the interior, which emphasizes its focus on performance and weight reduction.
Born for The Track: Let Loose on The Road
The McLaren 600LT produces 600PS and 620Mn of torque. It has an exhaust system that is even shorter than the McLaren Senna. This system has the benefit of reduced back pressure. The aim was to produce a McLaren that engages and excites the driver to the highest levels possible.
It has quicker steering, firmer engine mounts, and track-focused Pirelli P Zero tires with a lightweight suspension and braking system.
