Can You Put Ceramic Coating on Your Car Windscreen
Now, we know a ceramic coating is quite effective in repelling water beads. In the event of a spring storm, this hydrophobic finish on the wiper may be all you need for the most visibility. Even on a hot summer day, such a coat reinforces your glass’ UV resistance. But, how practical is it to put a ceramic coating on a windshield? Is it as potent here as it is on the rest of the car?

The Application
A nano-ceramic coat works well on fiberglass, wheels, PPF, and regular car paint. This coat bonds with the surface, creating a transparent yet robust protective layer. Coatings like the Glass Serum Kit and Armor Shield IX vary depending on their longevity. For, they can last from 2 years to forever.

A ceramic coating on a wind screen is beneficial in three main ways:
Optimal Visibility in Adverse Conditions
Apart from resisting water bubbles, a nano-coat will slide mud off the glazing. It’s a vital feature when driving off-road in a torrential storm. Again, the film repels bird poop, plants, insect remains, and other contaminants. In turn, it keeps the glass clean and clear of any obscuring. It’s the best way to stay safe when driving in hostile weather.
Easy to Clean
Now, think of how long you have to wait to clear a mud splash on your screen using your wiper blades. Are you a commercial trucker who uses roads with minimal traffic?
You don’t want to make unnecessary stops on a lone stretch. A ceramic coat is ultra-slippery. Hence, any dirt or mud splashed on such a surface will slide off immediately. For, even the stubborn bud guts and tree saps come off right away.
Ultimate Protection
So, you’ve been a careful driver. Plus, you never skip a regular car inspection. Still, you may find a few scratches on your windscreen from normal wear and tear. Not so, for a glass with a nano-coating. Its anti-scratch properties mean that you can go for between 3 to 5 years without seeing a single swirl line. This treatment is a quick fix for automotive glass that is nearing its term.
All In All
Unlike traditional wax or polymer sealants, a ceramic coat to your windscreen can resist oxidation, corrosion, scratches, and stains. Its final glossy look offers an all surface protection that will improve your car’s resale market value. Besides, this slick coat is not labor-intensive. Plus, you’ll get rid of the need to wax your car for good!
A ceramic coating for the windscreen is customized to function best on such glass. Hence, it eliminates water spotting and premature failure that is common with other types of coating. The process of applying the coat to the windscreen is slightly different from the rest of the car as follows: –
How to Apply a Ceramic Coat on Your Windshield
Step One: A Clean Glass
Like the rest of the car, ensure the glass is clean before you proceed with a ceramic coat. For, a clear glass forms a firm bond to the cover. Never opt for an automated car wash.
Both the soap and brushes used in the drive-through can create swirl marks for your car. Then, when you apply the ceramic coating, it will reinforce the mark. Instead, use a wet pad to wipe off dirt in a sideways motion.
The Challenge
Many drivers worry about the cleaning needed to prep a car window for a ceramic coating. For instance, some of the cleaning products may sip into the rubber seals. When these seals dry up, they break, then all hell breaks loose. Well, for a stress-free coat, we recommend using rubbing alcohol.
The Solution
Rubbing alcohol is a safe cleaning solution on car windows and tinted glass. Even as it slides down the rubber seals, you won’t have to worry about the solution drying out your rubber. So, put equal parts of 99% isopropyl alcohol and distilled water in a spray bottle. Mist the windscreen with the alcohol solution. Then, use a microfiber applicator pad cloth to wipe off the solution from side to side.

Step Two: Claying and Polishing – Optional
Next, it’s necessary to clay your windscreen to remove all invisible contaminants. These include remains, transit wrap, tar, and glue lines. To do this, first wet the glass with a solid lubricant like Chemical Guys Clay Luber.

Such a cream will let your clay to glide with ease on the glass. Then, rub a piece of clay bar all over the glass. Maintain consistent vertical strokes across the windshield. Later, use a microfiber cloth to remove the clay on the glass. Should you notice any haze or streaks, wipe the glass one last time using a good glass cleaner.
Do you still feel that your glass is not 100% clean? Then, you can proceed and polish the screen before applying the ceramic coat. Polishing entails getting rid of hard water spots that appear like scales on the glass.
For such stubborn cases, consider using CarPro CeriGlass or any other leading glass polish. This mild abrasive polish is the solution to those scratches that form on the windshield wipers as a result of salts binding with the dust on the glass.
If your car is new, or straight from inspection, you may opt to skip claying and polishing. Yet, to be sure, you should perform all these steps in preparation for the coat.

Step Three: Applying the Ceramic Coat
Do this final step with the car parked in the shade or at night when the temperatures are low. This way, the high temperature or humidity will not interfere with the curing process afterward.
First, apply five drops of RainX, Aquapel, or any other ideal ceramic coating on a microfiber pad. Leave it to dry for five to fifteen minutes. Then, wipe it off using a damp cloth. Do not expose the glass to water for at least 48 hours.
